Mystery of Voice
Magazine "Caravan", April 4, 1997
After the battle between the Russian and the French armies at Borodino there were many dead bodies lying in the battle field. Several officers and medical doctors came to examine the corpses and there was also one civilian who took part in the patriotic war against the invaders. This was a Russian scientist Ivan Gruzinov and he made an outstanding discovery straight in the field of Borodino. He wrote the following report in his diary: "While making experiments with the bodies of dead soldiers, I used to blow air into the lungs of a dead body and then let it go out. In this way a perfect voice was generated similar to that which is produced by animals - without straining the vocal chords. The human voice is born in the lower part of the breathing throat by the action of the backward membrane which connects cartilage cells of this throat..."
In this way the mystery of the human voice was revealed but it still remained unknown to people. The diary was eventually lost and found again, it was copied and stolen. And meanwhile science followed a wrong path: some Italians managed to persuade everybody, that the so called "soul" of voice is produced by oscillations of vocal chords. Because of that the vocal training process was usually guided by the following magic formulae: "breathing support", "voice registers", phone-efficient position of vocal chords"
This false way of learning was difficult both for teachers and for students. It took them many years to master the awkward vocal technique and hence the efficiency of study was extremely low.
But nature continues living its usual life. Birds, who do not have neither lungs, nor diaphragm, sing wonderfully; babies, who do not have power to lift their heads, produce sounds which are so clear and strong that specialists in singing are puzzled being unable to provide any explanation.
Another unexplained phenomenon is the art of the famous Russian singer Feodor Shalyapin! After all, he did not receive any professional training and he had no teachers of singing. He used to decline all suggestions for traditional vocal tuition saying that he would prefer to sing in his own manner. And he did sing! Nobody could sing like he did!
Led by his instinct, Shalyapin managed to penetrate into the same mystery which was discovered by Iliya Gruzinov and sealed in his diary.
At present, a person lives in our city who has also revealed this mystery. This is a modest scientist who continues the experiments staged by his predecessor: he makes experiments and presents his methodology to his followers. In a way, he is a real magician. In the course of only a few lessons he can cure any unclear voice and make this voice powerful, colorful and beautiful. He can transform a high-tone voice into a deep bass or a harsh voice into a pleasant baritone in accordance with the wish of the voice's owner.
So, this dramatic change depends on your wish. But unfortunately, the mentioned scientists does not teach routinely, keeping himself away of commerce and scientific discussions. He is interested in the further investigation and perfection of the process. It is a pity, but he had even asked not to mention his name in this publication. So many politicians of different ranks who have unpleasant and irritating voices would have been able to improve their voices and make them really charming. This mystery was disclosed to us: it is called the membrane and trachea mechanism of voice generation which does not require physical efforts and which is universal for the animal world.
But the mystery is still partly hidden and it resemble a gin sitting in a bottle which we hold in our hands - a magician can set him free by a special magic formula.
An oriental poet Omar Hayam has once written:
It is not my fault that I have to seal
My most precious notebook
But I know the so-called scientists well enough
Not to open my soul in front of them.
We have seen this miracle with our own eyes. We have witnessed how virtually voiceless people acquired wonderful voices. Such is the truth...
